Listener produces content for online publication, specifically through social media, to help people understand various mental health concepts. We use visuals and activities to demonstrate concepts that may be unique or new to refugee/immigrant communities. Everything is reviewed by several members of different refugee/immigrant communities, and most of the videos include familiar community leaders. We attempt to be proactive and responsive to community needs or issues that may arise.
We also do in-person educational workshops for the community -- this is preferred!
We work directly with nonprofits serving refugee/immigrant populations by offering consultation services (short-term) on immediate needs, and we fill an advisory role to aid in the long-term development of the organization and the people who staff it.
We help with creating financial tracking and data management systems, reaching professional development goals, grant-writing, event planning and more!
Listener also follows and provides relevant updates on local, state, and federal policy and changes to said policies to ensure compliance, sustainability, and programmatic flexibility.
Many of the staff and volunteers in refugee/immigrant serving organizations are members of the very communities they are serving. They have lived through the same experiences as those they are serving - experiencing the same traumas and challenges. This type of work can bring about intense emotional and psychological responses in addition to weighing heavy on the physical and spiritual wellbeing of these incredible healers.
Our goal is to improve resilience by tackling issues like secondary/vicarious trauma and burnout. We do this by teaching healthy coping skills and processing their own experiences and unique challenges.
Systemic change is critical to the mission and vision of this organization, and our systems do their best when everyone is involved in the processes and invested in the outcomes. We are able to aid in developing partnerships with ethnic community-based organizations and provide trainings, workshops, and presentations to help policymakers, businesses, and other organizations reach their goals by involving our refugee/immigrant friends, families, and neighbors.
Case management is daunting and rewarding. There may be times it seems overwhelming, and that is where we can help by coordinating services and aiding in expanding the care team for specific cases.
During severe situations, when people may feel their most vulnerable, scared, numb, and more, you are not alone. I do not have to know you to care about you, and there are many more who care. Whether it's individual situations, local turmoil, national unrest, or international developments.... we are here to help however we can.
